Sunday 31st July Melbreak Hotel Little Clifton.
On a cool morning with a westerly wind members made their way to the Melbreak on two and four wheels.
Maurice left Thornhill using the cycle path to Egremont where he turned right passing Gulley Flats and kept right at Kell Head Cottages junction to take to the road to St. Bees. It was then left onto the coast road passing through Nethertown and Braystones to reach Beckermet. Then it was onto the cycle path to Sellafield to turn right to reach the A595 and the cycle path to Thornhill.
A change of clothes after a quick shower Maurice left to pick up Steve H. and meet the rest of the club members at the Melbreak.
The Braithwaite trio joined the A66, turning right onto the old road at Dubwath to meet up with Stewart just before Embleton.
They then continued on over Slate Fell into Cockermouth, then onto Brigham where they crossed the A66 to Great Broughton.
It was then onto Camerton to cross the River Derwent, followed by the climb to Great Clifton.
A brief stop to get ones breath back, the group then continued on through Great Clifton to the lunch stop at the Melbreak.
Steve and Dave arrived by car for lunch, then we're going to park up in Keswick and ride out to Threlkeld to the steam open day at Threlkeld quarry.
Tracy and Brian parked their van at Dubwath and went for a ride, before arriving at the Melbreak.
After lunch Tracy, Brian, Steve and Dave left on four wheels, leaving the rest to retire outside into the sun.
Eventually after a lengthy chat the rest made a move for home, Maurice and Steve back to Whitehaven, while the rest headed in the direction off Cockermouth.
At Embleton the Braithwaite trio said goodbye to Stewart, leaving them to continue onto Braithwaite.
Autumn Tints Wednesday 27th July.
Ten members turned up at Allonby on a dry but cold morning, all arriving by car, they were Maurice, Steve, Roy, Ivan, John R and grandson Sam, Maggie and Stewart and Sue and John.
The first place off call was the Allonby cafe for obligatory tea and coffee, Maurice having been there since 9.30 had become a fixture, seeing the group didn't move till 1030.
Leaving Allonby along the coast road with the wind blowing off the sea, the group headed towards Dubmill Point turning right at Oldkiln to Edderside.
Negotiating the farm buildings and muck covered road at Edderside the group continued on through New Cowper to join the B5301.
After a short distance on the B5301 the group turn right at Aikshaw to Abbeytown accompanied by a following wind.
Joining the main road in Abbeytown the group continued on turning right at the closed road sign to Seavile, for lunch at Cups and Saucers.
Lunch and chat over the group left into a headwind, occasionally sheltered by the hedges, passing through Wolsty, Newtown and Mawbray.
Joining the B5300 coast road at Dubmill Scar, was followed by the final run into Allonby to parked cars.
Sunday 24th July Mason Arms Gilcrux.
On cool morning with showers forecast seven members made it for lunch all making their own way there.
Tracy parked her car at the pub and cycled up Tallentire Hill, turning right at the top to drop down into Tallentire, to return back to Gilcrux.
Joe and France's also parked their car at the pub and cycled out as far as Plumland, returning via Arkleby.
Maurice more ambitious parked up on the old Brigham road, before cycling into Cockermouth to join the Isel road.
Crossing the river at Isel he took the first right heading for Sunderland, after negotiating a few junctions and a bit of climbing it was across the A595.
This was followed by the welcome descent to Threapland, then along a gentler road to Gilcrux.
Roy really put off by the weather was seen capped up making his way along the A66 on his way to Gilcrux.
Leaving the A66 at Dubwath he joined the old road into Cockermouth, where he crossed the River Derwent, followed by the climb to join the A595
After short stretch along the A595 he turned left to Bridekirk and Tallentire, after all the climbing, was followed by the descent to Gilcrux.
Sue and John parked their car in Cockermouth, making their way to Brigham to cross the A66 to Little Broughton.
It was then onto the A594 to Dearham, turning right at the cross road to continue on through Dearham to Gilcrux.
Joining the group round the table were Sue and Paul having parked their car in Allonby and cycled to Gilcrux via Hayton and Oughterside.
Lunch and chat over members left the way they had arrived, Sue and Paul going back to Allonby, Tracy, France's and Joe by car.
The rest headed for Dearham crossing the A594 to Broughton Moor, turning left in the village back to the A594.
After a short stretch on the A594 the group turned right to Little Broughton, then across the A66 to Brigham to Maurice's parked car.
After a brief stop Roy, Sue and John continued on into Cockermouth, saying goodbye to Roy who had to cycle back to Braithwaite.
Although most were caught out in the morning showers the day had been much better than forecast.
Sunday 17th July Kirkstile Inn Loweswater.
Again most of the two wheel members were away doing their own thing, seven of them doing the Eden Valley Hospice ride.
On a cool morning with a westerly wind four members cycled to the Kirkstile, they were Joe, Roy, Dave and Tracy.
They were joined by France's, Brian and Catherine who arrived on four wheels.
Roy out to beat Maurice in the tour competition collected points going from Beck Wythop to Wythop Mill, then on through Lorton to the Kirkstile.
After lunch and the usual banter members began to leave, Tracy and Joe getting a lift home on four wheels.
Dave and Roy left in different directions, Dave going back via Fangs Brow, while Roy headed for Braithwaite over Whinlatter.
Autumn Tints Wednesday 13th July.
With most members ether on holiday or doing other things only three members turned up at the Melbreak for the 10 o'clock start.
They were Steve, Roy and John R. joining them for a cuppa before they set off was Maurice.
Saying goodbye to Maurice the trio set off heading to Workington where they joined the cycle path to Maryport.
With dark clouds forming over the bay it was decided to stop and have lunch at the Aquarium, instead of going onto Allonby.
Lunch and chat over the trio followed their wheel tracks back to parked cars at the Melbreak.
Sunday 10th July Club Run Hesket Newmarket.
On a miserable morning, not like summer at all, four members made it to Sue and John's for coffee, they were Anita, John R, Ivan and Roy.
Eventually after a long chat the group of six left Braithwaite along the A66, to join the A591.
With occasional light shower and following wind the group turned right off the A591 at High Side to follow the undulating road through Orthwaite and Longlands.
After negotiating the steep climb at Longlands it was onto the common for the fast descent into Caldbeck and onto Hesket Newmarket.
Sat in the pub waiting for their lunch were France's and Joe along with Brian and Tracy, who had parked there van in Mungrisdale and ridden out on their tandem trike.
After lunch Brian and Tracy left first followed by the rest, France's and Joe driving home, leaving the two wheel group to cycle back to Braithwaite.
Leaving the pub they headed to Millhouse where they turned right to Haltcliff Bridge along a narrow lane that climbed steadily seeing Anita and Sue ride away.
Regrouping just before Mungrisdale the group then followed the gated road to Scales to continue on the cycle route into Threlkeld.
Crossing the A66 for the last climb of the day up Burns Brow, was welcomed by some downhill into Keswick and flat road into Braithwaite.
Autumn Tints Wednesday 6th July Aquarium Maryport.
On a cool overcast morning members met at Eaglesfield, they were Dianne, Steve, Sue, John, Ivan, Bruce and John R.
Paul provided the tea, coffee and biscuits, while Sue quietly disappeared off to her art class.
After a long chat the group finally made a move, Dianne and Bruce just there for the chat made their way back home.
Having agreed on a route Sue led the group out of the village, heading for Greysouthen and onto Bridgefoot.
After climbing Chapel Brow and crossing the A66 the group continued on through Great Clifton and Stainburn to join the cycle track.
A quick detour into Workington for Sue and John R to do some shopping, picking up the cycle track again to Maryport for lunch.
Sat having lunch one could see the fishing boats entering the arbour to unload their catch.
Eventually it was time to leave the warm environment of the Aquarium into the cold and facing wind.
Following their wheel tracks back to Siddick, they crossed the A596 for drag up to Seaton to join the cycle track to Camerton.
From Camerton it was on and over the River Derwent followed by the climb to Great Clifton and onto Bridgefoot.
Back on the road they came out on, although in reverse was mostly all uphill back to Eaglesfield for more tea, coffee and biscuits.
Sunday 3rd July Post House Deanscales.
On a cold dry morning members made their way to Deanscales all starting from different locations.
Maurice decided to do a local circuit, starting from his home in Thornhill he headed to Egremont, turning left in the town to Kell Head.
Turning left onto the B5345 he then made his way via Kersey Bridge to Braystones, crossing the River Ehen it was then onto Beckermet and back to Thornhill.
After a quick change of clothing it was into the car for the drive to Deanscales for lunch.
Dianne on that must get electric bike made her way to Paddle School where she turned left then first right to Branglingill.
From Brandlingill it was up the short climb to Aikbank Mill, followed by more climbing to Pardshaw Hall, (obviously no effort on that electric bike) before the run down to Deanscales.
Anita left Sandwith followed by the descent into Whitehaven to join the cycle track to Rowrah, it was then onto the main road to Deanscales.
Dave cycled from home to Keekle to join Steve to ride out to Deanscales using the main road, the A5086 all the way.
Roy starting of late parked his car at Dubwath made his way along the old road through Embleton to cross A66 again at Lambfoot to Hundith.
At the crossroads at Hundith it was straight across to Southwaite Mill to wind his way through the lanes to Brandlingill to follow in Dianne’s wheel tracks.
Sue and John left Braithwaite cycling into a cold wind having to stop after a couple of miles to put on more clothing.
After negotiating the A66 it was onto the old road through Embleton and over Slate Fell into Cockermouth.
Leaving Cockermouth it was on through Brigham, turning left in Broughton Cross to Greysouthen, followed by the climb to Eaglesfield and onto Deanscales.
After a good lunch and chat members left the way they had arrived, starting off in one group and slowly splitting as member headed for home.
