Mallorca October 2017 By Roy Jackson
Saturday 7th October
John and Sue M, Steve L and Roy left Braithwaite at 8.45am with Ruth's taxi to Penrith Station, then by train to Manchester Airport, where they were joined later by Sue and Paul C, Peter and Michelle and Steve L's daughter Angela and partner Steve also flying to Mallorca but staying at a different part of the island. The group arrived at Can Picafort at 10pm Mallorca time.
Sunday 8th October
Warm and sunny. The group spent the morning collecting hire bikes or assembling their own bikes and met for lunch at Rapha’s. Then a ride round the bay to Port d' Alcudia stopping for coffee at the cafe Aqua, returning by the same route. Bob from Manchester, Anne and Derek from Nottingham Ken and Elaine from Garstang were also staying at Can Picafort, also Andy.
Monday 9th October
Fine and warm. Steve, Roy, Sue and Paul, left just after 10am and met Sue and John, Peter and Michelle at Max's bike shop. Paul was leader who took them along quiet lanes past the one man quarry, stopping at the view point in Muro, before stopping for coffee in Muro. After coffee Steve discovered a flat tyre and had to change tubes. It was then via Maria de la Salud to Petra for lunch.
During lunch it rained heavily so much lunch was extended until it stopped – a two and a half hour lunch!
Return was more quiet lanes via Santa Margalida arriving at the hotel at 6.30pm.
Tuesday 10th October
Paul took the lead again on another very warm day. More quiet lanes to Red Rum, our usual coffee stop but the decision was taken to have a change and went further round the bay to a hotel for their coffee. After a few more lanes lunch stop was at Tolos Cafe.
A stop for afternoon tea at Polenca, before returning via the Stables and a visit to Max's Boutique. Maggie and Stewart arrived this day.
Wednesday 11th October
Everyone did their own thing in the morning before attending the free lunch at the Concord. Maggie and Stewart went out for a day’s ride.
In the afternoon Roy, Steve and John rode to Alcudia to find the ferry terminal, for ferries to Menorca, to see if it was feasible to go with bikes for a day trip. It was possible but in October it meant riding back from Alcudia in the dark. After tea and cakes at Aqua Café, Stewart and Maggie went to Petra.
Thursday 12th October
Stewart and Maggie did their own thing but planned to meet the rest at Cala Sant Vicenc for lunch. Sue, Paul, Roy and Steve left together about 10am. John, Sue, Peter and Michelle left later.
Just before Sa Pobla Sue punctured, changed a tube, then Paul punctured and at this point the following group caught up. Arriving at the Caves De Campanet a little late the group stopped for lunch instead of coffee. Then a ride by country lanes to Cala Sant Vicenc for afternoon tea, instead of lunch, where they met Bob but missed Stewart and Maggie. They also had a brief stop at the hotel to look at the classic cars, returning past the Stables, Sue and Paul stopped at Max's for two new tubes.
Friday 13th October
Another rather hot day. Maggie and Stewart rode to Luc. Sue and Paul went to Palma by bus, John and Sue, Peter and Michelle, Roy and Steve rode across the Cabbage Patch towards Sa Pobla with coffee at Buger, then to Campanet village, then to Caimari for lunch, then a long downhill run to Sa Pobla, on return we found out Stewart had fallen on some gravel and broken his hip and was in hospital in Palma.
Saturday 14th October
A very warm day. 10.45am start, with John, Sue, Peter and Michelle, Roy, Steve and Andy. Rode round the bay to Alcudia, a long coffee stop at Aqua. Then a tour of the Marina looking at all the big yachts from all over Europe. Back to Rafas at 3pm for a bite to eat. We were joined by Paul and Sue who had been to Sinua. We saw Maggie and Stewart has broken his hip in three places.
Sunday 15th October
Another hot day. Sue and John, Sue and Paul, Peter and Michelle, Roy and Steve plus Andy set off on a ride led by Maggie. Country lanes via Santa Margalida to Maria De La Salud for coffee, then lunch at Llubi.
Long run down after lunch, between Sa Pobla and Muro and back to Can Picafort.
Monday 16th October
Overcast and cooler. Sue and Paul did their own route. Maggie went to Palma to visit Stewart. The rest of the group were accompanied by Bob and fitness instructor from hotel
Bob lead the group across the cabbage patch to join the pipe road to Sencelles for lunch. After lunch it was onto Ruberts and Lloret to join the main road to Sineu. It was then onto Muro and a stop for coffee and cake.
Maggie's birthday this day – party tomorrow.
Tuesday 17th October
The group rode around the bay to Alcudia for coffee at Hotel Daina in Port de Pollenca. After Coffee Bob returned as was going home the next day.
After riding through the lanes Pollenca Golf Club was the lunch stop, then another drink stop at the Stables on the way back.
Everyone stopping at the 'Concord' went round to the Janiero to celebrate Maggie's birthday which was the day prior and Steve's the day after, this one with birthday cake and champagne.
Wednesday 18th October
Another warm day. 10.30am start with a leisurely ride to Alcudia for tea and cake at the Aqua Cafe. Then back to Can Picafort to return the hire bikes.
Thursday 19th October
There was a thunder storm about 5am which woke everyone nice and early for catching the bus at 7am.
Everyone going home except for Maggie who had to stay till Stewart was discharged from hospital.
Every one arrived home safely.
