Sunday 8th September Posting House Deanscales by Dianne Moyes
There was a small turnout at The Posting House, Deanscales, on a rather pleasant September day. Seven members had lunch together and were just leaving when Dave Swift arrived, having climbed out of Whitehaven and up to Pica. Luckily he had brought some lunch with him so decided to use an outside table. Maurice brought Steve Hasson by car and it was good to see Steve, quiet but smiling. Stuart and Maggie had come directly from Embleton, Tom from Whitehaven and Dianne via Brandlingill, Pardshaw and Dean. Roy had ridden over Whinlatter and then over Fangs Brow (the joys of an electric bike), through Ullock and Dean before being caught by Dianne in Deanscales. We managed to not argue too much over Brexit before leaving and heading home.

Sunday 1st September Ennerdale Brewery Rowrah
On an overcast morning with the risk of heavy showers Sue, John and Roy left Braithwaite to meet up with Janet, Ivan and Dianne in Lorton.
Half way up the pass the predicted shower arrived along with a headwind, one hoped this wasn't going to be the pattern for the day.
On the descent the rain disappeared and the sun made a brief appearance as they met up with the Cockermouth trio.
After a brief discussion they set off, with Sue on the front they crossed the River Cocker heading for Thackthwaite and onto Loweswater.
All ridding e-bikes they passed Loweswater with Fangs Brow looming in the distance, this usually a heart pounding climb was ridden without getting a sweat on.
Once over the top it was mostly downhill to Lamplugh where Dianne decided to go via the main road, while the rest carried on through Fellside to Kirkland.
Having avoided any showers they arrived at the Ennerdale Brewery to find Maurice, Shirley and Tom having lunch.
Arriving in one's and two's were Paul, Sue, Dave, Steve and John R all having arrived on two wheels with the exception of Shirley and Sue C.
Over lunch in the warmth of the cafe one could see the predicted showers outside which were quite heavy.
After a good lunch and chat members began to move all heading back home, one half back to Whitehaven the half back towards Cockermouth.
No more than a few yards down the road and the rain that was expecting started to fall but soon disappeared; to find two miles down the road, they were dry.
The Dianne group made their way back via Ullock, Dean, Deanscales and Eaglesfield saying goodbye to Dianne at Paddle School.
The rest continued onto Southwaite Mill stopping on the bridge to watch someone getting baptised in the river. It was then onto Embleton where Janet and Ivan made their way over Slate Fell back to Cockermouth.
That just left the Braithwaite trio to join the A66 at Dubwath before joining the old road back to Braithwaite, having done 40 miles and over 3000 ft of climbing.
