Chairman's Report by Maurice Cowley
It has been a year of weird weather over the past year with high winds and rain along with the Covid 19 Lock down in March. But still there was enough decent weather for riders to be able to get rides in during the frequent breaks in the rain and wind and I think there was warm weather with sunshine during all of the Lock down and such a pleasure to have a lot less traffic on the roads during that period.
A new Combined Assisted/unassisted Tour Competition was run over the past year which was hotly contested by the participants.
Unfortunately the AGM had to be cancelled due to the Covid 19 restriction but the present position holders agreed to stay in post until another AGM can be held. I would like to thank them for their forbearance.
Also the Club Presentation Dinner had to be cancelled due to the Covid 19 restrictions and the Christmas dinner may have to be as well for the same reason.
Having only to be able to ride in groups of six means that we all miss riding in the usual larger group which was a lot more sociable and I think we all will be very happy to get back to that scenario and hope it will be sooner than later.
If we don't see each other before Christmas I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and happy New Year!!
Secretary's Report by Dianne Moyes
This has been a very strange year with only 6 months normality which included our Prize Giving dinner last October and our Christmas Dinner at Hundith Hill. The club acted quickly to protect members from the 14th March and has since followed the advice from Cycling UK. We were fortunate that we could still ride throughout lockdown and experience the joy of quiet roads. I have received a number of enquiries about the club and as a result have one new member so far. The WhatsApp group has proved useful during this time for members, so if you have a smart phone and would like to be included in the group, please contact me. The website which can be found by typing solwaycyclingclub into your browser has enabled members to read ride reports and get the latest information on Covid restrictions. We have affiliated to Cycling UK for the next year as Solway Sociable CC and our Affiliated Club Number is 8001795, which is needed if you are renewing your affiliated membership. Thanks to all, members and officers, who keep the club freewheeling along.
